2 Guys Hurling update

Holy crap it’s been 8 months since we hurled anything. We built the trebuchet in the summer of 2005, and finally got the video online almost a year later. The plan was to build something else in August/September 2006, but things just didn’t work out in our favour.

We were going to do a ballista, but the kit was out of stock for months. Time passed, and unfortunately we don’t live in a part of the world that permits this kind of outdoor activity in the winter months.

Word is that the ballista kit is back in stock, and it looks like we’ll have some time in the coming months to get back to some hurling.

So check the site once in a while for a trebuchet follow-up episode and Season 2 of 2 Guys Hurling: The Ballista.

Chris & Jason

So… now what?

Now that season 1 is complete, and you’ve all seen the results of our hurling experiment, what happens now?

Well that’s a good question.

First of all, I think I’ll post higher quality QuickTime versions of Season 1. YouTube is a great site, but I must admit I’m not that happy with the quality. I suspect that the YouTube quality is directly affected by what you upload to them. I guess I could re-encode the videos and try again with YouTube, but I figure it’ll just be easer to encode and host my own. So look for that soon.

Secondly, Jason and I do plan on making some enhancements to the trebuchet before we call it a day. When that happens we’ll post an epilogue episode to cap off Season 1.

finally, we also plan on doing a second season of 2 Guys Hurling, but have run into some problems. Our plan was to build a Ballista this summer, and release the first episode probably in September some time. Turns out the Ballista kit is out of stock, and we may not be able to get one until August or later. So I’m not sure when we’ll be able to get Season 2 going, but I’ll keep you posted.

As of right now I can’t find the show by doing a search, but I think that will take a little while to kick in. Also, I’ll be creating some real “cover-art” for the show later tonight to spruce things up a bit.

Please subscribe via the iTunes store, and stay tuned for episode 2 next week.

[UPDATE] You can now find the podcast by searching the iTunes Music Store. For example, enter ‘hurling’ in the search box, and we’re the first result. Right on!

Welcome to 2 Guys Hurling

Hi. I’m Chris, and he’s Jason, and welcome to 2 Guys Hurling.

What’s this site all about you ask? Well there really isn’t that much to it. Last year, Jason came to me one day and said, “Hey, I’ve got an idea… let’s build a trebuchet”.

To which I replied, “trebu-what?”.

He explained it to me and to make a long story short, later that summer we spent a week at the cottage drinking a lot of beer, and building a medieval hurling machine. A trebuchet is similar to a catapult except it’s powered exclusively by gravity, and the projectile is suspended from the end of the throwing arm in a sling.

We video taped the whole operation, and have finally gotten around to editing it down, and releasing it to the world. You’ll be able to watch the videos on this site, or subscribe to our podcast to have a new episode delivered each week.

The first episode will be available soon, so please check back often.
