2 Guys Hurling update

Holy crap it’s been 8 months since we hurled anything. We built the trebuchet in the summer of 2005, and finally got the video online almost a year later. The plan was to build something else in August/September 2006, but things just didn’t work out in our favour.

We were going to do a ballista, but the kit was out of stock for months. Time passed, and unfortunately we don’t live in a part of the world that permits this kind of outdoor activity in the winter months.

Word is that the ballista kit is back in stock, and it looks like we’ll have some time in the coming months to get back to some hurling.

So check the site once in a while for a trebuchet follow-up episode and Season 2 of 2 Guys Hurling: The Ballista.

2 Guys Hurling goes high quality

As promised, I’ve created higher quality QuickTime versions of each episode in Season 1. Here are the links for those who’d like to recapture the glory and experience the trebuchet all over again.

Episode 1 - “Good Start”
Episode 2 - “The Frame”
Episode 3 - “That’s It?”
Episode 4 - “A New (bucket of) Hope”
Episode 5 - “Final Assembly”
Episode 6 - “The Hurl”

So… now what?

Now that season 1 is complete, and you’ve all seen the results of our hurling experiment, what happens now?

Well that’s a good question.

First of all, I think I’ll post higher quality QuickTime versions of Season 1. YouTube is a great site, but I must admit I’m not that happy with the quality. I suspect that the YouTube quality is directly affected by what you upload to them. I guess I could re-encode the videos and try again with YouTube, but I figure it’ll just be easer to encode and host my own. So look for that soon.

Secondly, Jason and I do plan on making some enhancements to the trebuchet before we call it a day. When that happens we’ll post an epilogue episode to cap off Season 1.

finally, we also plan on doing a second season of 2 Guys Hurling, but have run into some problems. Our plan was to build a Ballista this summer, and release the first episode probably in September some time. Turns out the Ballista kit is out of stock, and we may not be able to get one until August or later. So I’m not sure when we’ll be able to get Season 2 going, but I’ll keep you posted.

~ Chris

The Hurl

The moment you’ve all been waiting for has arrived. The machine is finished and we’re ready to hurt ourselves - I mean hurl stuff. Do we break anything? Does the machine fall apart? Watch and find out!

Over the fire pit, through the trees!

Episode 5 is now available! In our penultimate (and longest) episode, we attach the throwing arm to the base, and then finish the trigger mechanism. This episode features numerous injuries, less Benny Hill, and some awesome hats. Enjoy.

The poor squirrels

In episode four the weather takes a turn for the worse, and we’re forced inside to finish building the counter-weight bucket. After lots of gluing, clamping, and waiting, the bucket finally comes together… But what about the squirrels?

Episode 3 - “That’s It?”

Episode 3 is ready for your viewing pleasure!

In this installment, the trebuchet is nearly destroyed when Jason attempts to turn it over. Then, after a lot of high-speed screwing (uhh… yeah), we move on and build the throwing arm.

Episode 2!

Welcome to episode 2. In this installment, we get down to business building the basic trebuchet frame. We spend a lot of time measuring stuff, and discover that we’re easily fooled by a tape measure.

If you are new to the site and haven’t watched episode 1 yet, please scroll down the page or click “Season 1 - The Trebuchet” under Site Navigation at the top right. There you’ll find all the episodes from season one.

NOTE: For those of you subscribed to the iTunes feed, episode 2 will be automatically delivered to you in a few hours. Sorry for the delay.

Episode 2 on Tuesday [updated]

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Episode 2 is coming on Tuesday. We’re past the initial excitment of opening the box, and we really get down to business. You don’t want to miss it.

[UPDATE] Having some internet issues and am unable to upload the new episode. Should have it up tomorrow morning

2 Guys Hurling now on iTunes [updated]

Well that didn’t take long. Season 1 is now available in the iTunes music store. The direct link to the podcast is:

As of right now I can’t find the show by doing a search, but I think that will take a little while to kick in. Also, I’ll be creating some real “cover-art” for the show later tonight to spruce things up a bit.

Please subscribe via the iTunes store, and stay tuned for episode 2 next week.

[UPDATE] You can now find the podcast by searching the iTunes Music Store. For example, enter ‘hurling’ in the search box, and we’re the first result. Right on!
